It sits just on the northern outskirts of Ubud, close to the majestic Agung River gorge, yet within five minute’s drive to the hustle and bustle of the downtown Ubud. The main attraction is the large infinity pool situated on the edge of the paddies. It invites you to just kick back and catch up on your reading, while listening to the ducks from the nearby village go quack. Hotel restaurant Terraccota serves both traditional Balinese food with a modern twist and international cuisine. Enjoying their sumptuous “Fish done two ways” with an orchestra of crickets as a background is a new level dining experience.

They have a semi-open spa bungalow tucked away out in the rice fields, where you can be spoiled with treatments by therapist trained at the Japanese cosmetic giant Shiseido. For couples thirsty for some Bali rural romance, book a romantic dinner for two served in a gazebo surrounded by nothing but the 50 shades of green. You will have just the chirping critters, your better half and the sumptuous food to keep you company.

5b_AYUNG_RIVER_VALLEY5a_CAMPUHAN_RIDGE

AYUNG RIVER VALLEY

Yes, you can do all the touristy things and it is going to be good fun. Explore all the nooks and crannies of the dusty, buzzing central market and bargain for trinkets and souvenirs. Or go see a traditional, colourful Balinese dance. But don’t forget to check out the real “hit” of Ubud – its marvelous tropical scenery and fun outdoor activities. If you want to escape the tourist crowds, take a trip to the Jurassic Park-like Agung River valley, merely a 15 minute drive from the town centre. It is located in Sayan, just on the northern outskirts of Ubud, and home to many fancy resorts perched up high a top the cliff. Step into the green wonderland and explore it either by yourself or get a knowledgeable local guide. (We recommend you book via Kenanga for the most authentic experience!) [FRV]
