5 of the Best Bali Beach Clubs

Published 26 August 2016

Bali Beach clubs have become a way of life for sunseekers and the party crowd visiting the island. Sit back and relax on your day bed or jump in the ocean, it’s an exclusive experience and there are many choices around the island. Here are five of the best.

Azul Beach Club Bali

Exterior-2a

Azul Beach Club Bali opened a few months ago and overlooks Legian Beach just near Padma Road.

This part of the Kuta/Legian stretch of beach is what holidaymakers would be dreaming of when booking trips to the Island of the Gods; blue waters, waves breaking on the expanse of white sand with beach umbrellas, day beds and cocktails in hand. The three-storey bamboo structure of Azul provides breathtaking views over this tranquil scene. There is no doubt, Azul Beach Club is a place of dreams. The menus created by revered chef Arif Wicaksono are creative and generous in portion. Chef Arif comes to Azul with a strong pedigree working in some of the best restaurants in Bali and his menu reflects this from start to finish. He has been working with new Azul F&B Director, Austrian, Helmut Roessler to create the ultimate new beach club menu, simplifying some parts and making it even better value for money. It is a bistro style menu ideal for a beach club atmosphere but not shirking on quality. The ground floor is home to the main dining area with a bar and seating overlooking the pedestrian street below and the beach. The second floor features dining pods that could fit four or five people not only overlooking the beach but also the newly planned Tiki bar which will be opening shortly under Roessler’s guidance.

This will be the first real Tiki bar on Bali complete with carved wooden cocktail mugs, sharing style cocktails and Tiki style decorations – “but nothing cheesy,” adds Helmut. The Tiki bar will be opening soon. The third floor is like a private room but open all round with spectacular views up and down the Kuta and Seminyak beaches. This could be the spot for your next gathering of 10 to 15 people.

Azul Beach Club is set to become the next hot beach club in town. Don’t miss their BBQ Sundays, and let me assure you, it’s well worth the trip from Seminyak!

El Kabron Cliff Club

elkabron_pano_03

El Kabron isn’t exactly a beach club because it sits on top of a cliff, but it does overlook the most remarkable stretch of south Bali coast towards Uluwatu, and is one of the best spots on Bali to see the sunset. It’s totally stunning.

It does have all the characteristics of a beach club though, with a horizon pool, day beds, electronic music, etc. The Spanish food and service are excellent and El Kabron has helped to lift the bar in the Uluwatu area since opening over five years ago. It’s all about the sunset, but many people are there during the day enjoying the rays earlier and swimming and frolicking around the pool. As sunset arrives so do the punters, and before you know it the whole place is normally full. The front deck, which is cut into the cliff, and the pool area are always busy, and later as the sun goes down, the dining area becomes the focus of attention as dinner is served. Famed for their paella and other myriad Spanish dishes, great wines and excellent service, El Kabron is THE destination restaurant and beach club in the Uluwatu area. Watch out for their famous monthly parties during the dry season, that attract the fashionable and well-healed from all over town and the world.

The new Finns at Berawa Beach has taken off instantly as the place to enjoy the Bali sunset in style in the Canggu area. The enormous, absolute beachfront venue, made principally from bamboo, has a famous surf break right out the front, plenty of day beds around the 30-metre swimming pool, and DJ music pumping up or chilling down the vibe every day of the week. Finns Canggu is only 15 minutes from Seminyak and has plenty of private parking.

The expansive double-storey bamboo structure, with an observation platform above, was designed to allow every guest to have a stunning ocean view no matter where they sit. And it’s true, the views from just about everywhere are breathtaking. Night surfing is also possible, with flood lights allowing surfers to continue catching waves at the famous Berawa break all day and into the night. The DJs accompany them from 4pm daily.

With classy cocktails, a great beach club style menu, daily DJ sessions and awesome sunset views, with an accessibility and affordability for everyone, Finns Canggu has already cemented itself as a major player in Canggu. It’s open from 9am to midnight with free entrance.

Karma Beach

Karma Beach was one of the first fully-fledged beach clubs to make its mark on the Bali entertainment and sun-loving world. It has a beautiful white sand stretch of beach, and is secluded and pristine, something that not a lot of Bali beaches can claim, and is surrounded by vertiginous bush covered cliffs.

The ride down on the inclinator opens a whole new world of beachside sophistication, with great dining, international DJs and a jet-setting crowd from all around the world. The Balinese style of the bamboo and alang alang structure is complemented with traditional Balinese hospitality and service. Dining is a relaxed selection of gourmet cuisine, prepared with top quality and locally sourced ingredients, with dishes like Australian beef burgers, fresh sushi and sashimi, and wood-fired pizzas. There is something for everyone. Also, don’t forget to try their world-class signature cocktails, premium wines and bubbles.

Many watersports are also available such as swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, SUPing and surfing (for advanced surfers).
Keep an eye open for their big events all through the year. In general there are international DJs every weekend and daily during high season. They organize bigger parties with big named DJs from all over the world, normally twice a month. And to finish, we asked Karma Beach’s Sabine Soetanto what her favorite thing was about the beach club. “Definitely the ocean! Karma Beach must have one of the most beautiful oceans in the world at its doorstep, and crystal clear waters. Being in the water at Karma Beach must be one of my favourite things. Can’t buy or find that anywhere else.”
