It’s a no nonsense steak house, simply called The Steak House, simply serving: steak. FRV finds out however that it’s not quite as simple as it seems.
Unbeknownst to many, Jakarta is something of a carnivorous beast. It’s the city of satay, a world of fried chicken, and every corner is filled with burgers. grilled beef, barbeque, and all that fatty stuff that has been close to our hearts since long, long ago. The rituals vary. Some pay respect to the true cowboy tradition of merely heating up their beef on coals. Others go a la mode with the sophistication of various sauces, dressings, “medium”, “medium-well”, “rare”, and so on.
As the name suggests, The Steak House has chosen a straight-to-the-point path. It is located right in the center of the city, in the mezzanine of the stunning Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta. It is boxy, wooden, polished, elegant – bottomline: it’s a place to dine, period.
White-clothed tables are numerous enough to host 84 carnivores. Lunch time is filled with “big fish” eating big, hearty beef cuts. The poultry and seafood dishes also deserve a nod. Start out with Louisiana crab cakes with spicy black bean and corn sauce guaranteed to pump up everybody’s appetite. For a slightly more sophisticated choice, go for truffled wild mushroom soup with the tasty beetroot oil. Ah … isn’t anybody hungry now?
Not too many items are offered in the main course selection, yet they are select A-list suspects: Australian Wagyu, Kobe, Angus, US Prime, you-name-it. The Steak House also boasts gourmet burgers, and the champion in this league is the betagged One Million Rupiah Burger, created by Chef Vindex Tengker. The justification for the staggering price: it’s a 7 oz. Kobe beef burger, along with a foie gras skewer, Portobello mushroom, wasabi mayonnaise, and a glass of red wine. The Burger has just achieved new heights of excellence!
This sensational item has proven hot with the demand of up to ten portions a day. If it’s already out of the promotional menu card, do not hesitate to go for the other legend: five peppercorn grilled black Angus beef fillet, accompanied with goat cheese potato croquette, and dressed in Madeira sauce. When feeling too guilty for meat, tone it down with the organic penne with gorgonzola sauce and walnuts. Organic? Yes, The Steak House attempts to compromise a little bit.
It is undoubtedly a masculine affair at the black-marbled steak house. It is the place to go for an oh-so-powerful business lunch or dinner. Wear the black tie, if necessary, for high testosterone look. In a man-eat-man world, The Steak House is a place for those who are at the the top of the food chain.
